1. Crack a smile- This may seem difficult to do when you are in the throes of depression but it can be very effective a lifting your mood. You do not have to force a clown grin, just smile naturally and see how it makes you feel. If you have a hard time trying to find something to smile about then close your eyes and think about a happy memory to help.
2. Get moving- Physical and mental health are connected, and exercise is a natural mood lightener and stress reliever. When you are physically active this encourages the production and release of endorphins, natural feel good chemicals produced in your own brain.You don’t have to compete in an Iron Man contest, just go for a walk or take a bike ride. This may seem difficult when you are down but once you start moving your mood will improve.
3. Let the music play- Music can be a good remedy for depression and it can help naturally make your mood brighter. Choose music that you enjoy and that is soothing, and then just relax while you listen. Get up and dance, or sing along with the song that is playing. You may be amazed at how much better you feel afterward.
4. Eat right- The link between diet and metal health has been clearly identified. A diet that is missing important nutrients can cause mental health issues as well as physical problems, because your brain requires nutritional support just like any other organ in your body.
