When you think of club drugs most people think of the party scene that can be found in Toronto, Canada or New York City in the USA, but club drugs are not limited to large cities with an extensive club scene. This category of drugs often includes:
- MDMA or Ecstasy
- GHB or Gamma Hydroxybutyrate
- Rohypnol or Roofies
- Methamphetamine, although this is also frequently used off the party scene as well as in the clubs and bars
Club drugs are very popular with young adults in larger cities, but law enforcement is also seeing these illegal drugs in smaller towns and rural areas as well. This trend is a reason for alarm because of the risks and the dangers that the club drugs can cause. While these specific forms of substance abuse are not engaged on the same level in smaller cities and rural areas as they are in large and thriving communities like Toronto and Montreal club drugs are still becoming an issue everywhere.
Many of these illegal drugs can have dangerous and even deadly side effects, and they are all illegal to possess or use without a valid prescription. Some of the club drugs are highly illegal and there is no valid medical reason for their use. Rohypnol is banned in the USA because of the side effects caused, and this drug is often used as a date rape drug because the victim does not remember what happened. Today even small communities and farming towns are at risk because club drugs do not stay in metropolitan areas.
