New Designer Drug Called Flakka Causing Concern Among Law Enforcement and Medical Professionals

 

Designer Drug Called FlakkaFlakka, one of the latest designer drugs to hit the street, is causing a lot of concern in law enforcement communities and medical professionals, and this drug has a number of side effects that make it extremely dangerous. Flakka can cause users to exhibit super human strength and to become highly aggressive and volatile, and it has been linked to some very bizarre street crimes in the USA and especially in the state of Florida. Use of this designer drug is spreading and it is only a matter of time until it is available all across North America. The new drug can be swallowed, smoked, snorted, or injected, and users may show a number of disturbing signs and symptoms that may require immediate medical attention or cause the user to be noticed by law enforcement.

The latest designer drug called Flakka is in the amphetamine category, and is similar to Ecstasy, Molly, and MDA. All of these drugs increase the level of dopamine in the brain, and that can initially provide a sensation of euphoria and of being alert. The very dangerous side effects that this class of drugs can have devastating effects, not only on the user but on others as well. Jon Lapook, MD, discussed Flakka and said “It reminds me of Angel Dust in the early 80s. I was in the emergency room at Columbia [University Medical Center] back then and I knew when someone came in ‘dusted’ because they’d have seven policemen holding down every part of their body and it seemed like they had super-human strength — and it sounds like this is the same sort of thing.”
