Suboxone

What is suboxone? This is a prescription medication that is prescribed in order to treat opioid addiction, and it is used as part of a comprehensive substance abuse treatment plan for individuals who are addicted to opioid drugs. Opioid drugs include opiate pain medications, heroin, and other drugs that are highly addictive. Many people who end up addicted to heroin or prescription pain medications relapse because of the physical cravings and the withdrawal symptoms that they experience when the drug use is stopped. Many report that withdrawing from opioid drugs feels like a severe case of the flu. Physical aches, chills, sweating, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea are accompanied by a general feeling of being very sick during the withdrawal stage. These symptoms can send the user back to the drug in order to feel better.

Suboxone is recognized as an effective treatment for heroin and opiate prescription drug addiction, but only if this medication is included in a complete treatment plan. Suboxone will help control the cravings and physical withdrawal symptoms but the user must still go to counseling and therapy sessions in order to work through the specific addiction causes in their life. Taking suboxone without any additional treatment steps will not work because you will continue to want to use and the underlying causes of addiction will not be addressed and resolved. There are some risks and possible complications involved for individuals who take Suboxone though, and physician oversight is required. Any doctor who prescribes suboxone must be closely regulated by the government and they are carefully monitored and subject to very strict regulations.
